Windsor, Ontario, October 7, 2020 – VON Windsor-Essex (Victorian Order of Nurses) is proud to share that as of September 15th, our Meals on Wheels volunteers have delivered 8920 meals thanks to the funding support of the Ontario Community Support Association (OSCA).

VON Meals on Wheels received $55,750.00 from OCSA in support of providing our communities most vulnerable with meals and other essentials they need to stay safe at home. VON began free meal delivery on July 21st with the help of community partners: Unemployed Help Centre, Community Living Windsor, Life After 50, The Women’s Shelter and Family Respite Services. 

 “This is an amazing achievement! Thank you to our Meals on Wheels and UHC team for pulling together and making this happen for our clients and community! Together with your hard work and the financial support of OCSA and our VON Community Board we have invested over $65,000 to deliver free and subsidized meals for vulnerable seniors and those in need across Windsor since the start of COVID-19!  That is something to be incredibly proud of.” Stephanie Segave, Program Manager.

Across Windsor-Essex, VON employees are on the front lines of the COVID-19 response. The efforts of VON caregivers are helping to keep people fed, cared for and safe in their homes. These efforts are essential, and in many cases help reduce further strain on our fellow medical professionals in hospitals. These people are all heroes in this global effort.

VON Windsor-Essex has been delivering services in this community since 1927. Maintaining the health and safety of our community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic is a top priority of our organization.
