Volunteer: Chatham-Kent

Telephone Assurance

The purpose of this volunteer position is to provide a regular, scheduled telephone call to promote a sense of well-being of seniors and persons with disabilities, illness or injury in all communities within Chatham-Kent who are lonely, isolated or fear for their safety.  These scheduled "security checks" enhance a persons ability to manage their isolation.

The volunteer and client develop a social support relationship based on trust, open-mindedness, sharing and caring, warmth and empathy.  You will provide assurance and discuss in-home safety with the Person Served, follow emergency contact procedures as required and monitor and record the progress of all telephone calls.

A maximum of one call per day and five minutes or less is recommended.  We recommend a minimum commitment of one year.
